Timothy L. Ericson Scholarship in Archival Studies: Call for Applications

The University of Wisconsin -- Milwaukee School of Information Studies is inviting applicants for the first recipient of the Timothy L. Ericson Scholarship in Archival Studies, to be awarded for the Fall of 2007. The Timothy L. Ericson Scholarship in Archival Studies honors the founder and long-time Director of the SOIS Archival Studies Program, Timothy L. Ericson, whose contributions to SOIS have supported his colleagues, inspired his students and brought many new and talented individuals to the archives profession.

Scholarship: One student will be awarded $500 to be applied directly to the cost of tuition during the Fall, 2007 semester classes taken in the School of Information Studies at UWM

Eligibility: As of Fall 2007, students must be enrolled in the School of Information Studies, University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. Students must either be enrolled in the MLIS Program and show a demonstrated commitment to Archival Studies, or must be enrolled in the Certificate of Advanced Study in Archives and Records Management (CAS) Program.
Both on-site and Distance Education students may apply.

Application: Students must provide the following:

  • Name and contact information
  • A description of the coursework that they have completed in the MLIS or CAS program, with a focus on Archives coursework.
  • A personal statement of no more than two pages, expressing their interest and accomplishments in the area of Archival Studies, the coursework they intend to complete, and their professional goals upon completion of the program.

Deadline: The deadline for Application is noon on Monday, January 8, 2007. No late applications will be accepted. Please address your application materials to:

Selection: The Selection Committee will consist of the Archival Studies Program Coordinator, one member of the archival community who is a graduate of the SOIS Archival Studies Program, and one additional member of the SOIS faculty. The awardee will be notified of his/her selection on or shortly after February 1, 2007.
